Macronix Buys ProMos’ Hsinchu 12-inch Fab

​​Hsinchu, Taiwan, April. 16, 2010 – Macronix International Co., Ltd. (TSE: 2337), the leading non-volatile memory (NVM) provider, today announced it has hold a Board of Directors meeting, in which the Board of Directors approved the proposal of buying ProMos Technologies’ 12-inch fab located in Hsinchu Science Park, Taiwan for NT$8.5 billion. After the Board meeting, Macronix and ProMos have signed the assets transaction agreement.

“This 300-mm wafer fab will mainly fabricate high-density, high-quality ROM and NOR Flash products,” said Miin Wu, Chairman and CEO of Macronix. “It could raise our capacity to an additional 20,000 12-inch wafer output per month and the planed deploying technology node is 45nm. With this fab, Macronix could provide substantial capacity and deliver advanced comprehensive memory solutions to fulfill our customers’ growing demand for their long-term growth. In addition, it will facilitate Macronix’ further development and enhance our global competitiveness. We expect the effectiveness of this newly-add fab could be seen early next year.”

The global NOR Flash industry is facing severe supply shortage situation, Macronix buys the 12-inch fab instead of building its own facility could shorten the construction time and save cost. With this strategy, we can rapidly offer products to our customers and can also take the advantage of the industry growth opportunity to expand our market share and obtain a superior industry position.”

This buying deal with ProMos includes fab, facility, production equipment and components. Macronix and ProMos will precede the transaction soon after the agreement signing.
